Following UK government and University of Chester advice and guidelines regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Offa’s Dyke Collaboratory has no option but to regretfully postpone the morning talks and afternoon walking tour planned for Saturday 4th April 2020. We are sorry about this and we will be working to identify a new date on which to hold the event in late summer/autumn. All those who booked via Eventbrite have had their bookings cancelled and have been notified by email.
Rather than cancel, however, we are instead planning for Special Offa: Communities and Offa’s Dyke GOES DIGITAL! Hence, replacing the activities on Saturday 4th April 2020 the following online activities will take place:
- Instead of the morning talks, a series of digital presentations will be delivered by the speakers, posted on the Collaboratory website and disseminated via social media (https://offaswatsdyke.wordpress.com/; https://twitter.com/ODCollaboratory/ ; https://www.facebook.com/OffasDykeCollaboratory/.). The provisional list of presenters for the morning of 4th April includes:
- Ray Bailey;
- Pauline Clarke;
- Liam Delaney;
- K Kimber, Artie Edmonds and Chris Woods
- Dave McGlade;
- Julian Ravest;
- Melanie Roxby-Mckay;
- John G. Swogger;
- Howard Williams
- Instead of the afternoon group walking tour, Howard will be leading the Special Offa Tragical History Virtual Tour of Offa’s Dyke around Trefonen, disseminated via a string of short videos via social media. Howard will use these videos to discuss key aspects of Offa’s Dyke’s design, placement and landscape context, its management and conservation;
- To coincide with Special Offa Day, the Offa’s Dyke Journal will be publishing the first article of volume 2 for 2020 on the online digital platform of the journal! http://revistas.jasarqueologia.es/index.php/odjournal/login?source=%2Findex.php%2Fodjournal%2Fuser. Again, Howard will blog about this and disseminate via social media.
Together, these 3 aspects will ensure that the 4th April 2020 remains a Special Offa day!
