Call for Papers
Special Themed Edition of AP – Online Journal of Public Archaeology: http://revistas.jasarqueologia.es/index.php/APJournal
Edited by Professor Howard Williams, Dept. of History and Archaeology, University of Chester & Dr Lorna-Jane Richardson, Dept. of Sociology, Umeå universitet, Sweden
The success of the recent Public Archaeology Twitter Conference (#PATC: https://publicarchaeologyconference.wordpress.com/ ) included a striking range of public archaeology projects engaging communities with mortuary and memorial data and themes, taking place through both traditional and digital media. Drawing together select contributions from #PATC, respondents to an open call for papers, and especially commissioned pieces, this special issue will show-case the latest research and critical thinking in public mortuary archaeology.
We are looking for short contributions of c. 3–5,000 words (including bibliographies), and supported by 5–10 images/tables. Submissions will need to critically consider how public archaeology projects tackle mnemonic and mortuary subjects. Studies appraising the field investigation, museum and public display, storage and visualisation of human remains and mortuary contexts are welcome. Equally, we invite studies which investigate a wider range of mortuary and memorial material cultures from portable artefacts, graffiti and gravestones, to cenotaphs, ruined buildings and memorial landscapes.
Does your research relate to the public dimensions of mortuary archaeology? Please contact the editors with a proposed title and 150-word abstract by 1st July 2017, with an aim for a 1st September 2017 submission deadline. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
